The Alzheimer Society Sudbury-Manitoulin North Bay & Districts is set to host its annual Walk for Alzheimer’s on May 25.

The walk is being held at Delki Dozzi Park, 3 Mary Street, starting at 10 a.m. that day.

“The funds raised for this event are vital to sustaining the Alzheimer's Society’s operations and ensuring that they can continue providing specialized programs and services tailored to support individuals and  families navigating the challenges of dementia in Sudbury and its surrounding regions,” the society said in a news release.

The Alzheimer Society says by the end of the year, there will be around 316,000 people living with dementia in Ontario, with an estimated 185,000 care partners devoting a collective 5,145,600 hours each week to providing unpaid care throughout the year.

“The demand for community-based initiatives, like those championed by the Alzheimer Society Sudbury-Manitoulin North Bay & Districts, is more pressing than ever,” a news release from the society states.

“Without this event, we would not be able to provide the quality services that we do in our community for our families,” said Shannon Ketchabaw, executive director at the Société Alzheimer Society of Sudbury-Manitoulin North Bay & Districts, in a news release. “All funds raised remain right here in Sudbury and surrounding regions, funding our programs and services to better support those living with dementia and their care partners.“
