Environment Canada is warning that a cold front expected to sweep across the region later this afternoon will create the conditions for a flash freeze.

The warning was issued at around 8:30 a.m. and is expected to last from late afternoon today through this evening.

“A cold front will sweep across the region later today,” the warning states. “Temperatures are forecast to fall rapidly behind the front. Ponding water, slush, and any falling precipitation will freeze as the temperature drops.”

Tonight, the mercury is expected to dip to a frigid -15 with a 60-per-cent chance of snow. A -22 wind chill is expected overnight as well with winds at 40 km/h, gusting to 60.
