Board members at Five Nations Energy Inc. recently approved a $125,000 donation for Sudbury's Health Sciences North hospital.

Sudbury's Health Sciences North said it was grateful to Five Nations Energy Inc. for the recent donation of $125,000 "to enhance care at HSN for patients living across Northeastern Ontario.”

Five Nations Energy, based out of Timmins, is the company that provides electricity and telecommunications for several Indigenous communities along the western shores of James Bay. This includes Attawapiskat, Kashechewan, Fort Albany, Moosonee and Taykwa Tagamou Nations.

Through its community support program, Five Nations Energy gives back to First Nations communities, along with health providers within Northern Ontario, said the company.

“We are happy to be able to make this donation to help build upon the great care that is already taking place at Health Sciences North for people across the region,” said Pat Chilton, Chief Executive Officer at Five Nations.

“There are more and more people within our communities going to Sudbury for care, including myself and some of my colleagues. This confirmed our intention to give back to HSN with this donation for providing quality care to our community members when they needed it the most,” Chilton added.

Anthony Keating, President and Chief Development Officer, Foundations and Volunteer Groups at HSN, said he was pleased with the donation.

“We are extremely grateful to Five Nations Energy for their generous and meaningful gift, which will go a long way to ensure that HSN continues to meet the growing care needs of its diverse population,” Keating said.

He said the donation will be used to support HSN’s highest priority needs, such as funding the acquisition of life-saving, world-class medical equipment to provide the best care and supporting the hospital’s future capital needs.
