Two Wiikwemkoong residents are facing numerous charges after Manitoulin Ontario Provincial Police allege they fired an air pistol at a house in Massey on April 29.
Officers with the Manitoulin OPP detachment were dispatched after receiving a call about a firearm being discharged from a motor vehicle toward a home on Montreal Street in Massey.
No injuries were reported, OPP said.
“Police located the motor vehicle and arrested two occupants,” police said in a news release. “A search of the vehicle located an air pistol handgun, cellphones, drug paraphernalia and drugs suspected to be cocaine and opioids.”
A 37-year-old man from Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory, who police said was the driver of the vehicle, is charged with:
- Fail to comply with Probation Order
- Possession of a schedule I substance - two counts
- Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - two counts
- Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
- Assault with a weapon
- Imitation firearm - use while committing offence
- Discharge firearm with Intent
- Reckless discharge of firearm - life or safety
- Careless use of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition
- Pointing a firearm
He was held for bail court and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on May 9 in Sudbury.
The passenger, a 48-year-old woman from Wikwemikong Unceded Territory, is charged with:
- Possession of a schedule I substance
- Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking
- Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
- Assault with a weapon
- Imitation firearm - use while committing offence
- Discharge firearm with intent
- Reckless discharge of firearm - life or safety
- Careless use of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition
- Pointing a Firearm
