The 29-year-old Timmins man has been charged with impaired driving following a single-vehicle collision on Highway 144 at approximately 1 p.m. on May 11.
Members from the Nipissing West Detachment of the OPP, Cartier Fire Service and Manitoulin-Sudbury Paramedic Services, responded to the collision on unincorporated territory north of Sudbury. It resulted in the highway closing in both directions for three hours.
Three occupants, which included the driver and two children, were taken to an area hospital by an Ornge helicopter, according to a media release issued by the OPP. The driver received serious but non-life-threatening injuries, while the children received minor injuries.
The driver has been charged with two counts of dangerous operation causing bodily harm, operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80-plus) and operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs.
He was released and is scheduled to appear in a Sudbury courtroom on June 13.
The driver was also issued a 90-day driver's licence suspension, and his vehicle was impounded for seven days.
