The Garson Falconbridge Community Action Network presented an annual update on its activities to city council at a policy meeting on Sept. 16.

The action network revolves around one mandate, “Healthy communities are strong and vibrant.”

The network has recently launched a website, gfcan.com, to keep the community informed. For those who don't use the Internet, newsletters and mail outs are provided.

The network plans to hold monthly meetings, strategic vision sessions, collaborate with community stakeholders and address community concerns.

Most importantly, the group hopes to take action on concerns, according to their presentation.

The Garson Falconbridge program has also brought on a full-time representative from Vale Inco in regards to blasting concerns by the network's citizens.

Some of the problems that the network is planning on addressing include uninformed newcomers, ATV issues, snowplowing and removal, bus service, traffic on Falconbridge Road and the small amount of activities for youth.

In its visioning sessions, the network has outlined several opportunities for expansion of the community's parks and trails and the opportunity to develop an “inventory of things to do in Garson” according to the presentation.
