Sink or synchro swim – swimming club featured on Amazing Race Canada

As many Sudburians no doubt witnessed on Aug. 12, the Sudbury Synchronized Swimming Club showcased their skills and the challenge presented by the sport as part of a “detour” for Amazing Race Canada Team members.

The challenge consisted of learning and executing a basic routine with support from our club’s professional coaches. The Amazing Race contestants quickly learned there is nothing easy about the sport of synchronized swimming.

It all began when Amazing Race Canada contacted the club’s head coach, Lindsay Wandziak, inquiring about their interest to participate in this year’s program.

In a news release from Sudbury Synchro Club, they stated, “naturally, she (Lindsay) was thrilled with the opportunity presented to our club.”

Lindsay and the coaches of the senior competitive team, Chelsea Wandziak and Courtney Stasiuk, rallied together and choreographed a routine to be approved by the producers of the Amazing Race Canada.

Filming occurred in May and took two days. The first day focused on the host and media coverage of the race and event. The second day was the actual challenge.

“Needless to say, it was taxing keeping such an exciting secret,” stated the news release.

The host and team that participated in the detour, loved the experience despite expressing how truly challenging it was.

Sudbury Synchro Swim Club will be offering a free try synchro course Aug. 17 at the Howard Armstrong Pool in Hanmer and another on Sept. 11 at the Jeno Tihanyi Olympic Gold Pool at Laurentian.
