The Sudbury Five were back in action on Saturday night for their second of three games in Newfoundland against the Newfoundland Rogues, hoping to rebound from a loss to the same team two nights prior.
This time the Five would not be disappointed, as they came away with a 137-133 victory.
The game was close and evenly matched from start to finish, starting with the Five holding a lead at the end of the first quarter by a score of 28-26, with contributions from Duane Notice with 18 points in the game and AJ Mosby Jr., who was the performer of the game thanks to his 31 points on the night.
Despite it being a close game in the second quarter as well, the Rogues rebounded to score 37 points in the quarter to Sudbury’s 35 points, and thanks in large part to Marquise Collins’ 27 points in the game, the Five and the Rogues were all tied up 63-63 heading into the halftime break.
Coming out of the halftime break the Five managed to create a small lead for themselves and held a 98-90 lead over the Rogues with one quarter remaining in the game, with help from a 29 point effort from JD Miller.
Newfoundland put up an impressive 43 points in the fourth and final quarter, trying to mount a comeback, but fell just short, as the Five held on for the victory by a score of 137-133.
With the win, the Sudbury Five hold a record of 17 wins and 12 losses on the season.
The Sudbury Five play their third consecutive, and final, game, against the Newfoundland Rogues on the afternoon of Sunday, April 21, with tipoff scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Sudbury time, before heading to Kitchener to take on Dexter Williams Jr., Braylon Rayson, and the KW Titans on Saturday April 27, followed by their final regular season game against Jaylen Bland and the Windsor Express, taking place on Sunday, April 28.
