Sudbury Performance Group (SPG) is here to make everyone’s Canada Day a celebration of all things local.

“We have programmed twelve musical performances in two locations for SPG’s Canada Day offerings,” said SPG President, Mark Mannisto. “These are all really wonderful local acts. We want to show everyone what incredible musical talent we have, right in our area.”

SPG has arranged performances at the William Bell Gazebo in Bell Park from 12 noon to 9 p.m. and at Fionn MacCool’s on Regent Street, from 1 to 7 p.m., on Canada Day.

“Just imagine floating on your inner tube or on your stand-up paddleboard on Ramsey Lake and listening to Cassandra Young belt out some Barenaked Ladies,” said Mannisto. “Or, you’re sitting on the patio at Fionn MacCool’s enjoying a cold beverage and an appetizer and listening to Randy Smith’s songs and stories about Gord Downie and The Tragically Hip. It’s going to be a great day!”

Cassandra Young, who will be performing as a duet with Monochrome, and with her full band, 21, at William Bell Gazebo, is thrilled to be part of the day of local music.

“For me, being Canadian means celebrating diverse cultures, unique traditions, and a strong sense of community,” she said. “This event is an opportunity to celebrate what makes our country unique.”

She added, “With my performance, I hope to showcase some artists that people may have forgotten are Canadian. Music has an amazing ability to connect us, and I hope the audience leaves with a deeper appreciation for Canadian music.”

Mannisto emphasized, “Canada Day is so busy in Greater Sudbury, but we invite everyone to attend Sudbury Performance Group's Canada Day celebration. We have carefully created a lineup of Sudbury's top talent to give the audience the best locally grown party possible. We are so proud of our local Canadian talent, and we want to celebrate them with their performances.

He added, “Also, Bev Wills and the crew from Fionn MacCool’s have once again stepped up as community leaders and are helping our community celebrate our national pride by offering their venue as a celebration location. We are thankful to the Government of Canada for its assistance with the celebration. Happy Canada Day!”
