Ottawa Paramedics say an off-duty nurse doing CPR and the use of an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) revived a man in his 50s after he collapsed on his way out of a store in the east end.

Officials said the man had collapsed after complaining of dizziness just before 11 a.m. Thursday at the Canadian Superstore on Innes Road.

A nurse started CPR, and firefighters from Station 53 who were in the store, grabbed the defibrillator at the location and worked together to revive the man.

One shock from the AED had the man conscious and breathing again.

Paramedics arrived seconds later and stabilized the man, transporting him to hospital where he's in serious but stable condition.

Ottawa Paramedic says the incident demonstrates the importance of bystander CPR and AEDs.
