A Whitefish River First Nation resident is facing several charges following what police describe as an “intimate partner disturbance” in Espanola on June 19.
Just before 11 a.m. that day, Manitoulin Ontario Provincial Police responded to a call for service about an assault in Espanola.
From the charges, it appears the accused allegedly broke into a residence in Espanola, assaulted their partner by choking and forcibly confined the person. It is also alleged the accused stole a vehicle.
As a result of the investigation, a 31-year-old Whitefish River First Nation resident has been charged with:
- Fail to comply with probation order - three counts
- Break, enter a dwelling house with intent to commit indictable offence
- Assault cause bodily harm - choke, suffocate or strangle
- Forcible confinement
- Mischief
- Theft over $5,000 of a motor vehicle
The accused was held in custody.
Due to the nature of the incident, the name of the accused will not be released to protect the identity of the victim.
